Williams, Underwood both receive postseason honors
SIKESTON -- Two Sikeston Bulldog soccer players received post-season recognition for their help in Sikeston's best finish in school history.
The Bulldogs finished 15-12 during last season, losing to the Notre Dame Bulldogs in the Class 2, District 1 championship game, all with the help of senior Evan Underwood and junior Hunter Williams.
Williams, who led the Bulldogs with 19 goals and 13 assists at his forward position, was given first team all-region and second team all-state honors. He is the first Sikeston all-state recipient since Blake Taylor in 2005.
"Hunter has played a lot of soccer," Sikeston soccer coach Doyle Noe said. "He scored a lot of goals for us this year. He has a lot of those intangibles you don't often find in a kid.
"We look for him to have an even bigger season next year."
Like Williams, Underwood was named as a first team all-region member. Underwood scored 13 goals and also had six assists during his senior season.
"Evan has dedicated himself to soccer and has stuck it out for the last three years after and injury in his freshman year," said Noe. "Both of these guys were leaders for our team and they each put a lot of hard work in to helping our team last season."
