Bulldogs unable to contain Tigers in tourney

KENNETT -- The Portageville Bulldogs could not contain the Caruthersville Tigers on Thursday night during the semifinal round of the Bootheel Conference Tournament at Kennett High School.

Keeping close to the Tigers after the first half at 35-29, Portageville was outscored by 15 points in the second half leading to the loss.

The Bulldogs were led by Tevin Walker's 17 points while Fred Treadwell added 11 and Jake Young chipped in 10.

Vohland Fonda and Darryl Monroe led Caruthersville's attack with 19 and 16 points respectively. Claude Taylor scored 13 and Elbie Fonda had 10.

Caruthersville will face-off against district rival Kennett tonight for the conference championship. Kennett defeated Hayti 65-39 behind 21 points from Fred Garmon.

CHAFFEE -- Giving them a three-game winning streak, the Chaffee Lady Devils defeated the visiting Portageville Lady Bulldogs 50-42 on Thursday at Chaffee High School.

Since defeating Oran 38-37 on Jan. 31 for their first win of the season, the Lady Devils have strung together three wins defeating Eagle Ridge 27-21 on Tuesday.

Randi Wiley and Adrienne Eichhorn each scored 16 points to lead Chaffee. Ellie Sigman added eight points as well.

Portageville had nine players record at least one point as Latavia Harris and Emily Delisle led the Lady Bulldogs with nine and seven points respectively.

DEXTER -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats wasted little time pouncing on the visiting Kelly Lady Hawks on Thursday night establishing a 24-2 lead after the first quarter and eventually winning 55-19.

Erika Cobb led the Lady Bearcats with 15 points while Brittany Harris added 10.

Kelly was led by Kristen Powell's eight points.
