SIKESTON -- When Patrick Douglas was named one of the Outstanding Young Missourians at the Jaycees' State Convention earlier this year, the Sikeston man was quick to share recognition with his family.

"This award should go to my wife, Melissa, and seven-month-old daughter, Leighton Victoria, as much as me," said Douglas. "I know that in my acceptance speech, I mentioned that I credit my family a lot for helping me get involved in the community."

The awards are presented annually, and selected based on each individual's exceptional accomplishments and contributions to their chosen profession and their community, according to a news release.

"Not only has Patrick been highly involved with our chapter for several years, he's also been very involved with our community," said Ryan Merideth, past Sikeston Jaycee president. "When they evaluate the recipient of the award, it's not just based on what they've done with the Jaycee Chapter, it's more about what the individual has accomplished and done for the community -- what you've done as a person."
