BERTRAND - Mueller's Greenhouses has a new owner.
Erich and Mike Mueller announced the sale of their retail location which faces Interstate 57, just south of Bertrand, to Hope Seeds Inc. Founded 12 years ago by Mike and Jean Mueller, Hope Seeds is a Christian Charitable organization, which sends garden seed to the poor and hungry in over 50 nations of the world.
Mike Mueller described the purchase of the location as the realization of a permanent home of the charity's warehouse and distribution center. The purchase was approved in July by the Hope Seeds Board of Directors.
"The warehouse and greenhouses will be utilized for the production of selected vegetable plants for seed production, testing and trialing of the many types of garden seeds which are purchased and donated, and perhaps more importantly, the establishment of a series of teaching gardens," said Erich Mueller. Teaching gardens are used in training agricultural missionaries and mission teams as they travel to places where people desire to grow more of their own food.
Changes are expected to begin this fall, with many more visible changes in the spring and summer of next year, he said.
