BENTON -- 'Tis the season to beware of scammers.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said during the regular County Commission meeting Tuesday that an alert was issued by Dunklin County's sheriff this week regarding elderly residents there being targeted by scam artists.
Walter said the alert advised the targeted residents were contacted by phone by an individual asking for personal information and even banking information.
"I got a call from someone this morning that the same thing happened to them here," Walter said.
