CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Jean Hurley Brooks, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died suddenly Dec. 5, 2011, at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Born and raised in the Sikeston area to the late William Clyde and Norma Emma Maxwell Hurley, she was a 1956 graduate of Sikeston High School and a graduate of Miss Hickey's Business College in St. Louis after which she was employed in a government position.
In 1958, at St. Louis, she married Roger Raymond Brooks, who preceded her in death in 1966.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Gregory Scott Brooks in 2009, and by one sister, Cheryl Hurley Presson in 1976.
She is survived by: one daughter, Jill Ann Brooks of the home in Carlsbad; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Brooks of Livermore; one brother, Ron Hurley of Germantown, Tenn.; three sisters, Jo Norton of Sikeston, Carolyn McHaney of Bertrand, Mo., and Nancee Werts of St. Charles, Mo.; and two stepgranddaughters, Deanna McDaniel and Danielle Alexander.
She left behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many other relatives and friends. She also left behind her special, little Bethany Eehn, to whom she was "Nana."
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time for the memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church, 1307 North Main in Sikeston. The Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor, will officiate.
Private interment will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Charleston.
