DELTA -- Delta junior Machela VanGennip scored her 1,000th point on Thursday during the Lady Bobcats' 56-52 win over the Charleston Lady Bluejays.

VanGennip scored 22 points in the victory while Tori Burton led Delta with 24 points.

"VanGennip is one of the best players we've played against," Charleston coach Josh Thompson said. "She was everywhere. We'd try to put pressure on her and then Burton got us. They're a tough team."

Charleston (3-2) led 41-36 after three quarters but couldn't hold on. Delta outscored the visitors 20-11 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.

Kasuela Cooper led Charleston with 16 points.

"Our defense was a lot better and I think our press hurt them. We just didn't shoot the ball very well," Thompson said.

Risco 98, Gideon 62

CLARKTON -- The Risco Tigers advanced to their second Clarkton Holiday Tournament championship game in the last three years on Thursday with a 98-62 win over the Gideon Bulldogs.

The Tigers jumped out to a 25-8 lead after the first quarter and held a 52-25 advantage at halftime due to a dominate shooting performance from beyond the arc. Risco nailed 15 3-pointers in the win.

"We shot from the outside very well," Risco head coach Brandon Blankenship said. "We've been doing a lot of shooting drills of late and it's good to see that time transpire into game situations."

Luke Bixler, who hit four 3-pointers, led the Tigers with 28 points. Austin White scored 26 points and Chris Pavy chipped in 21.

Gideon, who was struck with a tragedy involving the death of three residents, including two students, on Tuesday, was led by Cory Goin's 28 points. Another was seriously injured during the single vehicle crash.

"My hat is off to Gideon," Blankenship said. "The resolve of that team to come out and compete after what has happened there is very commendable. Our thoughts and prayers here at Risco are with the family and friends affected by this tragedy."

Risco will play Gosnell, Ark., who beat Clarkton 79-66, tonight at 8 p.m. for the tournament title.
