PORTAGEVILLE -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats improved to 15-2 on the season with a 103-26 thrashing of Portageville on the road Thursday night.

Dexter led 22-9 after one quarter and then took control in the second quarter to go ahead 54-18 at the half.

The second half was more of the same as all eight Dexter players scored in the rout.

Sophomore Hannah Noe led Dexter with 24 points while fellow sophomores Mollie Whitehead and Alison Jarrell each finished with 18. Junior Brittany Harris scored 17.

Portageville (5-9) was led by Taylor McCoy's eight points.

Scott City 62, Scott Central 46

SIKESTON -- Despite a game-high 27 points for Scott County Central's Johniqua Fort, the Scott City Lady Rams took care of the Bravettes 62-46 on Thursday night at Ronnie Cookson Gymnasium.

Scott City senior Katie Hogan nearly missed a quadruple-double giving the Lady Rams 22 points, 11 rebounds, nine blocks and seven assists as Scott City opened the game with a 12-7 lead after one quarter.

The Lady Rams extended that margin to 12 points (29-17) at the half.

Scott City (8-7) put the game out of reach in the third quarter outscoring the Bravettes 22-10 on their way to a 51-27 lead going into the final frame.

Alicia Kern added 15 for Scott City while Katie Rhymer chipped in 10.

Scott City will travel to Saxony Lutheran for their next game on Thursday while Scott Central heads to Puxico on Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Charleston 73, Carbondale, Ill. 66

METROPOLIS, Ill. -- The Charleston Bluejays will play for the championship of the Superman Classic after defeating Carbondale, Ill., 73-66 on Thursday.

Charleston held a 31-23 lead at halftime and continued to keep the Terriers at bay in the third and fourth quarters to earn the win.

The Bluejays will take on the winner of Paducah Tighlman and Massac County in the championship game on Saturday night.

Charleston will be back in action tonight when they host Caruthersville in a battle of Class 3 powers.

Leopold 64, Richland 46

ESSEX -- The Richland Rebels fell behind early to Leopold and couldn't recover, falling 64-46 to the Wildcats.

Leopold led 23-11 after one quarter and 39-24 at halftime and never looked back.

Richard Forshee led Richland (2-11) with 20 points while Adam Lane added 12.

Sikeston 46, Jackson 28

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston Bulldogs eighth grade basketball team ended their season on a high note Thursday, defeating Jackson 46-28 in the third place game of the Cape Central Eighth Grade basketball tournament.

Sikeston trailed 10-8 after one quarter but outscored Jackson 38-18 the rest of the game.

"We played really well," said Sikeston coach Derek James. "It was a great team win and a great way to end the season."

Sikeston finishes with a record of 10-3.

"The kids worked hard all year and we had some thrilling wins over the course of the season," James said. "If this group continues to work the sky is the limit."

BROSELEY -- Opening the game with a 10-2 advantage, the Sikeston ninth grade basketball team rolled past the Twin Rivers Royals on Thursday night, 46-19.

Sikeston, who was led by Zach Jackson's 14 points, led 20-9 after the first half and extended that lead to 38-14 at the end of three.

Corbynn Blissett added 13 points for Sikeston while Luke Williams chipped in seven.

The Bulldogs are now 7-2 and will play Kennett at home on Tuesday.
