SIKESTON -- It's time to put a team together and begin training.
Registration is now open for the 14th Sikeston Corporate Games scheduled for June 10-30. Signups will be accepted until city offices close on Feb. 24.
Jiggs Moore, parks division director for the city of Sikeston, described the event held every other year as "a good opportunity for internal team building -- not to mention a little exercise -- through friendly competition with other area companies."
John Rowland, general manager of the TAG Truck Center in Sikeston, agreed.
"We've been in it a number of times," Rowland said. "It's good for team building and getting to know your fellow employees outside of the work environment. I'm out there participating in just about every event myself. I do the canoe race every year -- I've won it the last couple of years."
"It's also a chance for the employees of different companies to get to know others in the area's corporate community," Moore added. "Besides that, the Corporate Games are fun!"
This year's competition will consist of 15 events ranging from traditional sports such as basketball and bowling to "aqualympics" and a triathlon consisting of a three-legged race, sack race and water balloon toss.
"There's something for both jocks and couch potatoes," Moore said.
"The most fun, and probably my most favorite event, is the tug-of-war," Rowland said. "It takes about 10 people to compete -- it's pretty intense and a lot of fun."
