ADVANCE -- Joseph R. Capps, 76, died Jan. 22, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Dexter. Born Aug. 25, 1935, in Bakersfield, Calif., to the late James Robert and Zetta Long Capps, he had lived in Michigan before moving to Advance 42 years ago. ADVANCE -- Joseph R. Capps, 76, died Jan. 22, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Dexter.

Born Aug. 25, 1935, in Bakersfield, Calif., to the late James Robert and Zetta Long Capps, he had lived in Michigan before moving to Advance 42 years ago. He had worked at Arvin Automotive in Dexter and was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

On Oct. 21, 1960, in Buchanan, Mich., he married Kathryn C. O'Bryant who survives of the home.

Also surviving are: two sons, Joey Capps and David Capps of Advance; three daughters, Linda Anderson of Cape Girardeau, Pat Thurman of Advance and Teresa Richardson of Summersville; three brothers, Bobby Glenn Capps of Jefferson City, Coleman Capps of Advance and Willie Capps of Monett; seven sisters, Shirley Kidd of Advance, Mary Classcock of the state of Colorado, Patricia Starkl of Dexter, Vicky Green and Phyllis VanGennip of Monett, Rosalie Capps of St. Louis and Janie Sandovol of the state of Illinois; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clifford Capps, and his stepmother, Josephine Capps.

Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until time of memorial services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Jesse Lacey of Dexter officiating.

The Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
