SAGINAW, Mich. -- Lucile Thompson Stafford, 79, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Feb. 11, 2012, in Saginaw.
Born in 1932, in Cairo, Ill., to the late David and Dorothy Thompson, she attended Hollins College in Virginia and the University of Missouri before graduating from the University of Maryland as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She lived in Florida, Kansas and California before moving to Virginia. She retired as a budget analyst for the Department of the Navy in Arlington, Va. She was an active member of the Messiah United Methodist Church of West Springfield. She did volunteer work with Martha's Table in Washington, D.C., the Ecumenical Community Helping Others center in Springfield and Fairfax County Libraries.
She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Andrew Richards of Saginaw; a son, David Stafford of Tampa; one sister, Dorothy Lee Herzog of St. Charles, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery in Charleston. The Rev. Dan Faust, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
