ALTENBURG -- A group of immigrants coming to America to start a new life - that's what the Lutheran Heritage Center and Museum in Altenburg commemorates.

In 1839, approximately 700 Lutherans from the German state of Saxony came to eastern Perry County, said museum director Carla Jordan.

One of the reasons for the emigration to America was due to economic conditions in Germany, said Jordan.
