Annual wine-tasting event set for Sept. 15 in Downtown Sikeston
SIKESTON -- Wine enthusiasts will have the opportunity to sample even more of the region's finest wines as they mingle on the cobblestone streets of Downtown Sikeston during its third annual wine-tasting event later this month.
Set for 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 15 on Center Street in Downtown Sikeston, the outdoor event, "Fall in Love with Downtown Sikeston," is sponsored by the Historic Midtown Development Group.
According to Charlette Vanover of the HMDG Board, the downtown experience can't be beat.
"You have the atmosphere in downtown of the years gone by -- with the cobblestone street," Vanover said. "This, to me -- along with the music -- is one of the most beautiful settings we've ever had downtown," Vanover said.
Organizers will once again close off the front half of Center Street and the band, Caney Creek -- comprised of local musicians Danny Tetley, Kent Blocker, Larry Chasteen, Mike Black and Josh Fodge -- set up at the front of the street with the wine booths lined down the street, Vanover said.
"We're excited about it," agreed Kathy Medley of the Sikeston HMDG. "We have some new wineries coming this year."
