Trash pickup to go up 50 cents
SIKESTON -- Trash pickup in Sikeston will be 50 cents more per month.
Sikeston City Council members awarded the solid waste removal contract to Sonny's Solid Waste of Sikeston during their regular monthly meeting conducted Tuesday due to the Monday holiday.
Of the three companies solicited for bids, only two responded with offers, according to City Manager Doug Friend.
"Sonny's was the low bid," Friend said.
Council members followed the staff recommendation and awarded a three-year contract which begins Jan. 1 to Sonny's.
The cost per household will go to $18.41 per month with the possibility of going higher due to a fuel surcharge if the price of diesel exceeds $3.50 per gallon.
Of that monthly cost, $1.41 is billing and processing costs and community cleanup fees that go to the Sikeston Board of Municipal Utilities and the city.
Under the new contract, Sonny's will continue to provide roll-off boxes at the city's compost site for the community clean-up program.
Also bidding was Republic Services of Dexter which offered a price of $22.90 per household for a three-year contract.
