Evelyn Hunt
CHICAGO -- Evelyn Hunt, 91, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Aug. 27, 2012, at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Born Dec. 11, 1920, in Shaw, Miss., daughter of the late Francis and Henderson Jacobs, she later moved to Sikeston where she worked with her husband running a family business and briefly worked at Missouri Delta Medical Center before her retirement. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston, where she was a member of the Legion of Mary, before moving in 2003 to Chicago where she became a member of Basilica Our Lady of Sorrows.
In 1939, at Sikeston, she married Gireard Hunt who preceded her in death in 1982.
Survivors include: one son, Gireard Hunt Jr. of Chicago; one daughter, Melody Goodall of Chicago; two nieces, Rita Savage and Evelyn Hunt of Sikeston; four nephews, Jake Jones, Silas Hunt and Mike Hunt of Sikeston and Reginald Hunt of the state of South Carolina; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husband were four siblings, Mary Davis, Francis Stewart, Johnie Jacobs and Louis B. Jacobs.
Services were held Aug. 31 at the Basilica Our Lady of Sorrows.
Burial followed in the Oakridge Cemetery in Hillside with the C. Destiny Smith and Carver Funeral Home of Chicago in charge of arrangements.
