Street name was changed for safety measures

BENTON -- What's the difference between Fox Meadow Lane and Fox Meadow Road? About 20 miles -- and several minutes of travel time when each seconds counts.

Scott County Commissioner Dennis Ziegenhorn said during the regular County Commission meeting Tuesday that he was asked by Ken Coffey why the street on which Coffey owns several lots was renamed and expressed concerns about selling those lots with a changed street name.

"When he bought the lots, it was Fox Meadow," Ziegenhorn said.

The sign for the road now shows it as being Byrd Drive.

After following up on the question at the recorder's office and finding the document recording the Ridgeview Acres subdivision does show the street as Fox Meadow Road, Ziegenhorn came to the conclusion that a resident had changed the street sign.

As the road is within the Sikeston Special Road District, Ziegenhorn brought it to a District official's attention and asked that the name be "corrected."

The real answer to Coffey's question was "the change came through 911," Ziegenhorn soon discovered. "This was a safety measure."

Google map shows the road the recorder's office has listed as Fox Meadow Lane located south of Blodgett between County Road 518 and County Road 524 with three names: Fox Meadows Estates, Fox Meadows Road and Fox Meadows.
