CHARLESTON -- Sammie Herbert Dixon, 87, died Jan. 14, 2013, at the home of his niece.

Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Thompson Bend, to the late Ozark and Essie Martin Dixon, he retired from the General Motors Corporation in Saginaw, Mich. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Nov. 6, 1946.

He married Ethel B. Currin who preceded him in death. He later married Jessie Dixon who also preceded him in death.

Survivors include: one brother, Robert Dixon of Sikeston; two sisters, Rosemary Smith of Sikeston and Pauline Salvorah of Danville, Ill.; and a niece with whom he lived, Cherlene Mixon of Charleston.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at noon Saturday at the Opportunity Church of God in Christ in Charleston. Steve Betts, pastor, will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston. The Williams Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
