SIKESTON - Organizers of the 27th Annual King Day Celebration want everyone to become involved in making the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King come true.

On Monday, Sikeston residents are encouraged to join in the celebration which includes a motorcade parade and a program.

"This year we chose a theme: 'Dr. King had the dream but we are the means.' This is to emphasize what our role is in making the dream come together," said Michael Harris, a member of the Sikeston Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee.

He explained the effort to bring the races together and to improve the quality of life of all people doesn't just fall to one individual or group. "We are the ones who the job is left to to fulfill not only Dr. King's dream but the dream of every American citizen," Harris said.

The celebration to mark King's birthday will begin with the annual motorcade parade. Participants will assemble at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Green Memorial Church of God in Christ at 115 Clayton Ave. Participants are asked to bring banners, signs and posters for display during the parade, which will depart from the church at 11 a.m.
