COLUMBIA -- All four Sikeston Bulldog wrestlers began their day at the Class 3 state wrestling meet at Mizzou Arena in Columbia with a loss.
One, however, bounced back in the second round.
Senior Jacob Stinnett kept the Bulldogs' medal hopes alive with a win in the first round of the consolation bracket by pinning Ft. Zumwalt East's Shane Barrett at the 2:54 mark.
Fellow seniors Tarrington Marks (220) and Cody Middleton (126) as well as freshman Garrett Middleton (106) lost their first round consolation match.
Stinnett, who wrestles in the 138-pound weight class, will face the loser of Ladue Horton Watkins' Grant Sachs or Alexander Gaebe from Union in his next match.
In Class 2, Dexter's Trevor Walder, who came into the tournament as the No. 1 seed in the 132-pound weight division, lived up to his placement winning his first match of the day by pin fall.
Waldner will face Reeds Springs' Jacob Fisher in his next bout.
Also for Dexter, both Ethan Stevens and Dylan Bazarian fought back after first round losses and each won their next match in the consolation bracket.
Stevens (145) lost to Logan--Rogersville's Joseph Whittington in the first round. He bounced back to defeat Trey Hudson from Fulton. He will match up with either Dalton Tipton from Smithville or Grant Taylor from Clinton in the consolation bracket.
Bazarian, who is in the 152-pound class, defeated Tre Stewart from Kirksville to advance in the consolation bracket. He will face either Andrew Broyhill (Boonville) or Evan Young from Odessa in next round.
As from NMCC in the Class 1 tournament, Austin Cummins was the only Eagle wrestler to bounce back after a first round loss took all six of their participants.
Cummins (182), who lost to Nick Vansell of Knob Noster in the championship bracket, came back to defeat Lathrop's Jeremy Taylor by pin at the 0:25 mark.
Cummins will face either Jeffrey Butler from Seneca or O'Hara's Stephen Conway in the consolation bracket.
