EAST PRAIRIE -- Michael Paul Shands, 12, died at 7:32 a.m. Feb. 17, 2013, at St. Louis Children's Hospital.
Born April 3, 2000, in Sikeston, to Michael Paul Shands of East Prairie and Candice Rene Caery Sneeringer of East Prairie, he lived in East Prairie all of his life. He was a sixth grade student at Martin Elementary and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in East Prairie.
In addition to his parents, survivors include: one sister, Savannah Shands of East Prairie; three half sisters; his stepfather, Allen Sneeringer of East Prairie; grandparents, Sheila Davis and Donna Shands of East Prairie and Ronnie Caery of Elaine, Ark.; great-grandmother, Annie Davis of East Prairie; and four uncles, Corey Caery and Scott Caery and Terry Shands and Jeremiah Shands of East Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Terry Shands, Jerri Ann Garrison and Paul Summerfield; and his great-grandfather, Guy D. Davis.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday with Bill Adkisson officiating.
Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Corey Caery, Scott Caery, Ebert Smith, Eric Johnston, Russ Morgan and Randy Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Tony Childers, Terry Shands, Jeremiah Shands, Dale Hedges, Tommy Upchurch and Steve Stokes.
