Risco advances to title game, Oran downs Woodland
GIDEON -- The Risco Tigers moved on to the championship game of the Tri-County Conference tournament Tuesday after topping the tournament's No. 1 seed, Cooter, 6-5 in nine innings.
Jordon Pavy hit the eventual game-winning home run in the top of the ninth giving his team the 6-5 edge. Caleb McCord, who began pitching in the seventh, closed out the win.
McCord, who earned the win on the mound, pitched three innings while allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four. He also had a field day at the plate belting two home runs while going 3 for 5. McCord blasted a solo home run in the first and a 2-run shot in the seventh to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.
Matt Cumins added two hits including a double.
Risco will face Holcomb in the championship game Thursday at Gideon High School at 4 p.m.

Oran 8, Woodland 2
MARBLE HILL -- Pounding out 14 hits on Tuesday the Oran Eagles defeated Woodland 8-2.
Oran jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the top of the first before going up 4-0 on another two-run rally in the fourth. Woodland broke up the shutout by plating a run in the bottom of the fifth, but another four runs by the Eagles in the sixth put the Cardinals at bay.
Picking up the win was Chance Tenkhoff with six innings of work where he allowed both runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.
Alex Heuring led Oran at the plate with a 3 for 3 performance that included two runs scored and three driven in. He also drew a walk to reach base in all four appearances.
Kody Moore, Bear Hicks, Hunter Schlosser and Preston Hahn had two hits each.

Tiger Invitational
CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston boys track team took first place at the Cape Invitational Saturday at Cape Central High School.
They finished with 139.5 points as a team while completing four first place finishes. The boys beat out Murphysboro (115.5), McCluer North (108) and Jackson (95.5) who rounds out the top four.
"Great effort by the boys team," Sikeston track coach Terry Flanigan said. "This is the second meet in a row with a first place finish."
The girls team placed fifth out of 11 teams. Their two first place finishes came from Allisha Oglesby in the long and triple jumps.
Results from this meet were not available until Tuesday because of problems with the electronic scoring.

CHARLESTON -- The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles took down the Charleston Lady Bluejays Tuesday, 16-0.
NMCC scored seven runs in the first frame before tacking another five runs on in the second to go up 12-0.
Capping their night was a four run rally in the top of the third.
Michaela Townsend picked up the win with three innings of work where she allowed one hit and struck out three.
Townsend and Monica Davis had two hits each to lead NMCC's offense.
Now at 11-2, the Lady Eagles will travel to Kennett today to play the Lady Indians at 4 p.m.
