ORAN -- After 21 seasons Oran's head baseball coach has decided to step down.
Mitch Wood, who is also the school's superintendent, made it public Thursday during a pregame radio interview that he will not come back as the head coach of the Eagles following this season.
Wood, who cited motivation as the key to his decision, guided the Eagles to nine final four appearances during his tenure.
In his final regular season game, which was also senior day, his team gave him a fitting sendoff by defeating Kennett 7-1 behind home runs from Kody Moore and Alex Heuring.
Heuring's 2-run shot extended Oran's lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning. A 3-run blast by Moore capped the day in the sixth giving the Eagles a comfortable lead going into the seventh. The two seniors finished the day with six RBIs.
Moore also earned the complete game victory. He allowed five hits and struck out seven.
