Local residents from Butler, Cape Mississippi, New Madrid, Scott and Stoddard counties had their blood drawn Thursday at the YMCA of Southeast Missouri in Sikeston as part of study about cancer prevention. The American Cancer Society's Epidemiology Research Program is conducting the study with men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 years who have never been personally diagnosed with cancer. Residents also completed a survey and had their waist circumference measured as part of the study. Periodic follow-up surveys to update information will be sent to individuals every few years for the next 20 to 30 years.
