SIKESTON -- Car enthusiasts have the chance to share their vehicles and swap stories this weekend during Historic Downtown Sikeston's annual car show and ice cream social.

"The car show is a very popular event of ours," said Lynn Lancaster, director of Historic Downtown Sikeston. "We had about 50 cars entered in last year's show."

Hosted by Historic Downtown Sikeston, the car show will be held rain or shine from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Malone Park, located at the corners of Scott and Center streets in Downtown Sikeston.

With 15 different classes of vehicles, show entry is simple for car owners, Lancaster said.

"They just have to clean it up, bring it in Saturday morning, see which class it fits into and enter it in the show," Lancaster said.

Registration for the car show is from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. with judging taking place from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Awards will be announced at 3 p.m.

Trophies for first and second in each of the 15 classes will be awarded. Dash plaques will be given to the first 50 entrants. Single trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Paint, Best Engine and Mayor's Choice.

Bob McReynolds of Sikeston, who owns a white 1979 MGB Roadster, has participated in Historic Downtown Sikeston's past car shows.

"It's in a good place, and they usually have good music and food available," McReynolds said.

The 80-year-old car enthusiast said he likes to attend for the social aspect of seeing fellow car enthusiasts.

"I don't expect to get a trophy. I go for the fun of it," McReynolds said.

Jim Crowe of Sikeston owns a brown 2000 BMW-Z3 convertible and said he started putting his car in shows so other people could enjoy it, too.

He's entered his car in Historic Downtown Sikeston's show the last couple years.

"It was a pretty nice show. They a have a lot of cars that show up," Crowe said.

Held in conjunction with the car show is the ice cream social.
