Fourth person arrested in kidnapping case

BENTON -- A fourth person is in custody after an alleged kidnapping over the weekend.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, Cody James McRoy, 19, of Sikeston was arrested by Scott County deputies and is charged with the Class C felony of felonious restraint and the Class C felony of second degree assault. His bond is set at $1,000.

A probable-cause affidavit in the case, obtained Monday, said the 21-year-old male victim was taken from his home and beaten during the early morning hours on Friday. One of the three suspects stuck a pistol in the victim's mouth and threatened to kill the victim if he didn't give the suspect "his money," the affidavit said.

Three people were charged in the case: Ashley A. Ivie, 20, of Sikeston; Andrew T. Robinett, 26, of Sikeston; and Bryce A. Western, 18, of Sikeston. They were charged with assault, kidnapping, felonious restraint and unlawful use of a weapon.

Scott County Sheriff's Department deputy Jeff Schmitt wrote in the affidavit that Western and Robinett grabbed the victim while he was outside his Sikeston home and forced him into a car driven by Ivie. The three suspects then took the victim to Ivie's residence and beat him and threatened him with a camouflage pistol, Schmitt wrote. The victim convinced his alleged attackers to take him back home, where he had money, and locked them outside the house, the affidavit said.

The victim said his mother came home before the suspects left, and she tried to block them in the driveway, Schmitt wrote, but they got away.

No lawyer was listed in online court records for Ivie, Robinett or Western. All three remained in jail Monday.
