Day two of slack rounds in the books

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo kicked off the second day of their slack rounds Tuesday with the barrel racing and steer wrestling events.

In barrel racing, Kaley Bass edged out the competition with a run of 16.68 seconds to win the night. Just behind her was Shawna Bourne in second place with a time of 16.71 seconds and Jaime Barrow, who took third, with a run of 17.03 seconds.

Dru Melvin easily beat all comers in steer wrestling with a combined time of 9.6 seconds after both go-rounds.

Melvin's closest competitor was Dakota Eldridge, whose aggregate time of 11.1 seconds was good for second place.

Taking third was Riley Duvall with a time of 11.2 seconds.

The rodeo continues on Wednesday with slack picking back up at 4 p.m. and the opening ceremonies starting at 7 p.m.
