SIKESTON -- The Kennett Indian tennis team dominated the Sikeston Invitational Tennis Tournament Thursday following victories in both the doubles and singles bracket.

Kelsey Washburn and Heidi Shetley pulled out an 8-5 win in the doubles bracket defeating teammates Alex McPherson and Kara Heeb in the championship.

Shetly also clinched the singles championship after an 8-3 win over another Kennett teammate Hadley Hilburn.

Sikeston, Kenntt, Fredericktown and Charleston made up the field of the 8-team/8-player brackets.

SOFTBALL

Portageville 3, Sikeston 0

PORTAGEVILLE -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softbal team ran into a buzz saw Thursday afternoon during their 3-0 loss to Portageville.

Portageville pitcher Taylor Tiffany cut down 19 Sikeston batters by strikeout and nearly recorded a no-hitter. A bloop double by Maggie Shepherd in what could have been the last at-bat of the game broke up the bid.

Sikeston pitcher Madison Smith gave up three runs and struck out seven. Sikeston's defense committed no errors, an area that has largely led to their current nine-game losing streak.

Sikeston (1-9) will take part in the Chaffee Lady Devil Invitational Tournament starting Saturday. Sikeston will play the host Lady Devils at 9 a.m.

Oran 1, Chaffee 0

ORAN -- The Oran Lady Eagles softball team pulled out a 1-0 win over Chaffee Thursday at home.

The win moves Oran to 7-2 on the season.

VOLLEYBALL

JACKSON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs volleyball team dropped a two-set match on the road against Saxony Lutheran Thursday 25-6 and 25-16.

Sikeston's junior varsity pulled out a a win in three sets -- 14-25, 25-19 and 25-20.
