DEXTER -- It was announced and confirmed late Thursday afternoon that Dexter head football coach Justin Peden has been suspended from Dexter's next two football games.

KVFS 12 sports reporter Josh Frydman reported via Twitter that Peden confirmed the suspension but would not comment on the reason. Dexter athletic director Derek Urhahn also offered no comment.

The Standard Democrat has been informed by multiple sources that the head coach, an assistant and two players have been suspended for two games for the use of tobacco on school property. However, the Standard Democrat has been unable to confirm the reason with school officials at press time.

According to the Dexter Daily Statesman, Dexter school board president Betty Keirsey did not comment, but did say, "This is a personnel matter and I cannot discuss it."

The games in question include tonight's home contest against Sikeston and their Sept. 20 game against Caruthersville.

Peden, 34, is in his first year as Dexter's head football coach after spending the past seven years at Hayti, including the last two as head coach.
