CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A Scott County man was killed in a crash early Friday in Cape Girardeau.
Justin Schmidt, 24, of Scott City is dead following the crash that occurred around 1:30 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes on Interstate 55 at the Cape Girardeau/Scott City line, according to Scott County coroner Scott Amick.
According to a news release from the Cape Girardeau Police Department, at about 1:22 a.m. Friday, the department's officers responded to the 90-mile marker for a motor-vehicle crash involving five different vehicles. When officers arrived, they found Schmidt, who was deceased.
The accident caused the interstate to be shut down for approximately two hours. The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.
