CARUTHERSVILLE (SMNS) - The Dexter varsity girls tennis team beat Caruthersville 9-0 Thursday afternoon.

Dexter (9-3) returns to action Saturday when it competes at the Farmington Tournament.

VOLLEYBALL

Dexter 2, Bell City 1

DEXTER - The Dexter varsity girls volleyball team extended its winning streak to six Thursday night with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-5, victory against Bell City.

There was no junior varsity match and the varsity match was three out of five sets.

Dexter tallied 39 of its points against Bell City on kills. Shyann Jines and Jessica Lindsey each tallied nine kills. Kendall Adams and Delaney Pullen calculated five kills. Julia Hahn had four kills, Ashlyn Werneck had four kills and Alyssa Spear tallied three kills.

Lindsey served an unprecedented 29 times and tallied six aces. Pulllen had three aces and Hahn tallied two.

Spear had nine assists, Jines had seven assists and Hahn recorded five assists.

Dexter (17-3) improves to 5-0 in SCAA play with the victory. Dexter returns to action Monday when it hosts defending regular season SCAA champion Advance at 6 p.m.

JH FOOTBALL

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston junior high football teams defeated Farmington in both games Thursday at SPS Stadium.

The seventh grade escaped with a 38-32 victory after leading 32-14 at halftime.

Farmington closed the gap as close as 32-24 in the fourth quarter, but an 80-yard kick return by Sikeston's Elijah Faulkner sealed the victory.

Kevin Jones led Sikeston with three rushing touchdowns. He scored from 15, 37 and 60 yards out.

Sikeston quarterback Nate Self threw one touchdown down to Aaron Allen from 28 yards away with 1:57 left in the first half.

The eighth grade team, who won 28-20, fell behind by six early in the game but Fred Thatch scored an a 66-yard option run to tie it.

The Knights responded with another touchdown, but Thatch, again, answered with a 7-yard touchdown run and the 2-point conversion to give Sikeston a 14-12 lead with 5:02 left in the fourth quarter.

An Austin Branch interception led to another Thatch touchdown to give Sikeston a 22-12 advantage. Another Branch interception led to another Thatch touchdown run, this time from 86 yards, to put the Bulldogs up by two scores.

Farmington scored with 33 seconds left to make up the final.
