CHARLESTON -- Mississippi County should have its new financial software in place by the first of the year -- but there is no guarantee.

County commissioners signed during their regular weekly meeting Thursday a five-year contract with Tyler Technologies for a financial software solution to replace the county's mainframe system.

The county has for many years had a contract with Joss Inc. of New Madrid for software and hardware maintenance on the county's mainframe computer.

Jim Farrenburg, owner of Joss, advised county officials earlier in the year that he will retire and the company will no longer offer services after Dec. 31.

Accordingly, a new system "must be in place by Jan. 1," County Clerk Junior DeLay said but added that "there's no guarantee yet" from Tyler Technologies.
