Diehlstadt woman nabbed for drugs
BENTON -- A rural Diehlstadt woman is in custody following a narcotic investigation.
Evelyn Vanwinkle, 49, is charged with the class B felony of attempting to manufacture a controlled substance, the class C felony of possession of a controlled substance and the class D felony of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said while working an investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamine, Deputy Norman Brant learned that Vanwinkle currently was using and manufacturing methamphetamine at her residence located on Highway 77 outside of Diehlstadt. Walter said while Brant was at Vanwinkle's residence attempting to speak with her about the allegations, he observed numerous items associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine inside a burn barrel.
Walter said when Vanwinkle failed to answer the door, investigators applied for and obtained a search warrant for the home resulting in the discovery of numerous utensils, chemicals, and paraphernalia commonly present at an active methamphetamine lab. Walter also said that Investigators also found numerous items that contained a white powder that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Vanwinkle remains in custody in the Scott County Jail. Bond is set at $50,000.
