Prep Roundup: Lady Bearcats advance to SCAA semis, JV football falls to Cape

BERNIE (SMNS) - The top-seeded Dexter Bearcats booked its spot in the varsity SCAA Tournament semifinals Monday afternoon with a 25-1, 25-9, win against the eight-seeded Richland Rebels.

Dexter (23-3) tallied the first 21 points of set 1. Alyssa Spear tallied five aces for Dexter during the 21-0 run.

The Bearcats jumped out to an 11-1 lead in set 2. Dexter tallied half of its first 12 points in set 2 on kills.

Dexter finished the match with 27 kills.

Jessica Lindsey and Delaney Pullen each calculated eight kills for the Bearcats. Kendall Adams recorded five, Julia Hahn added four and Shyann Jines contributed two.

Jines had a team-high 14 assists. Spear had seven assists and Hahn tallied six assists.

Spear calculated six of Dexter's 11 aces. Lindsey and Pullen added two aces. Jines had one ace.

JV FOOTBALL

Cape Central 38, Sikeston 20

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston junior varsity football team lost their final game of the season Monday 38-20 to Cape Central.

The Bulldogs went ahead by two scores to open the game following a rushing touchdown by quarterback Nathan Hampton and a 35-yard pass to Phayzun Fobbs from Hampton for a 14-0 lead.

The Tigers, however, quickly rebounded and tied the game after a 24-yard rushing score and then an 11-yard run in the second quarter.

Cape Central took their first lead with two minutes left in the first half after a 93-yard run and a 2-point conversion gave them a 22-14 lead.

Hampton found Courtney Hawkins from 42 yards away to bring Sikeston within two, 22-20 late in the third quarter.

The Tigers put up two more scores in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

JH Girls Basketball

Sikeston 29, Puxico 27

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston eighth grade girls basketball team defeated Puxico 29-27 Monday in their first game of the season.

Hailey Noon led the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points. Gloria Bennett added six while Montannah Sullivan had four, Olivia Nash scored three and Makiyla Jones and Morgan Merrill chipped in two apiece.

Sikeston trailed Puxico 16-12 at the half and 20-19 entering the fourth quarter.
