SIKESTON -- Three hundred women in Southeast Missouri are slated to learn more about health issues during Friday's annual Multi-County Women's Health Conference in Sikeston.

Now in it's 10th year, the conference has already reached its maximum registration, said conference facilitator Dr. Maude Harris.

"We are not registering anymore (for the event). We are already filled to capacity," Harris said.

The event is also at capacity for its exhibitors, Harris noted.

"We have 30 exhibitors this year, and we have a waiting list for next year," Harris said.

Event organizers usually send a "save-the-date" brochure in March or April, and attendees and exhibitors can sign up for the conference from Sept. 1-30.

"The first year was the hardest, of course," Harris recalled of the conference. "We started at the First Christian Church in Sikeston and maybe a little over 100 people."

Since then, the event has moved to a couple other Sikeston churches before settling at Tanner Street Church of God for the past few years.

In its 10 years, the conference's goals and purpose have remained the same, Harris said.

"The main goal was to ensure people know about the resources available to them as far as their health needs," Harris said.
