CHARLESTON - An East Prairie woman is in jail for possessing a controlled substance at the Mississippi County Detention Center.

Cindy Lou Davidson, 56, was arrested Sunday night on a charge of driving while intoxicated. According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, while being booked, Corrections Officer Chris Wooten noticed a small pill bottle in her purse, which contained a prescription pill. The pill was later identified as Alprazolam, a schedule IV controlled substance.

During an interview on Monday by Deputy Cory Hutcheson, Davidson stated she had a prescription for the pill found in her possession. Davidson was allowed to contact her pharmacy to request verification of that prescription be sent to the Sheriff's Department.

The pharmacy advised the Sheriff's Department that Davidson was not prescribed any controlled medications during the preceding year, Moore said in a news release.

"Deputy Hutcheson gave her the benefit of the doubt and even let her contact the pharmacy to request proof of the prescription," he added.

Davidson is now charged with one count of delivery / possession of a controlled substance in a county jail, a class C felony punishable by up to seven years in prison.

As of press time, Davidson remained in the Mississippi County Detention Center, with bond set at $25,000.
