NEW MADRID - The only thing better than watching the city of New Madrid's first-ever Christmas parade will be sitting next to Santa Claus as the parade's grand marshal.

The parade, set to begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 14, is creating a lot of excitement locally and drawing interest from communities throughout the area, according to organizers.

"We are pretty excited," said City Administrator John Gilbert. "We have had a tremendous response."

Tickets for the drawing to be the parade grand marshal have already sold out at one business, Gilbert said. The $1 ticket that will enter a child into a drawing to win the ride with Santa in the New Madrid Christmas Parade can be purchased at the City Hall (from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday) and the Chamber of Commerce (from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday) or by contacting Liz Riley (lizriley77@yahoo.com) or Jaime Davis Motter (jaimedavis3@hotmail.com).
