DEXTER (SMNS) -- The Dexter Bearcats varsity boys basketball team suffered a 53-25 loss in its home opener against the Twin Rivers Royals Monday night.
The Royals (3-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The two teams traded the final 12 points of the first quarter before Dexter trimmed the deficit to 12-8 in the opening minute of the second period. The Royals followed with a 13-0 run to increase its lead to 25-8 with 3:08 left in the first half and led 29-10 at halftime.
The Bearcats tallied all four of its second-quarter points on free throws and its six first-quarter points on two-pointers. Peyton Pollock tallied five of his team-high eight points for the Bearcats in the first half.
Dexter cut the deficit to 16 at 29-13 early in the second half before falling behind 37-13.
Twin Rivers maintained at least a 23-point lead throughout the fourth quarter.
Ethan Flowers tallied all seven of his points in the second half for Dexter. Cole Renken scored all four of his points in the fourth quarter after being whistled for his fourth foul with 1:05 left in the third period.
Eric Ray dominated inside the paint for Twin Rivers. Ray tallied a team-high 16 points on eight two-pointers.
Dexter's varsity (0-2) returns to action Tuesday when it visits state-ranked Jackson.
The Dexter junior varsity improved to 3-2 with a 46-39 victory against Twin Rivers.

CLARKTON -- The Risco Tigers advanced to the semifinal round of the Clarkton Holiday Tournament Monday following a 75-66 win over Cooter.
Brandon Bixler led Risco (4-1) with 18 points. Josh Earnheart and Jordon Pavy added 17 and 15 respectively. Cooter's Riley Hickerson led all scorers with 23.
Risco, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will play top-seeded Gosnell, Ark., Thursday at 6 p.m.

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils surrendered 23 first quarter points before falling 57-23 to visiting Greenville on Monday.
The Lady Devils were led by Julia Sutterfield with eight points while Jordan Pruitt and Kaitlyn McFerron contributed four points each.
Kenzy Smith had a game-high 18 points for Greenville and Amanda McDaniel hit three 3-pointers on her way to 15 points. Samantha Ranuate scored 13 points to become the third Greenville player to reach double-digits.

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston seventh grade basketball team won the championship game of their own Seventh Grade Sikeston Invitational Tournament Monday over Poplar Bluff 65-47 at Sikeston Junior High School.
Weather postponements led to the championship game being played on Monday.
"It's always good to win this tournament, being on our home floor," seventh grade coach Eric Voorhees said. "I thought our guys played well at times defensively but you have to credit Poplar Bluff with their play tonight. They hit shots and shut us down at times. They are a solid team."
Kevin Jones led all scorers with 39 points. Nathan Self added 15.

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston eighth grade team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 57-26 win over Poplar Bluff on Monday at Sikeston Junior High School.
Sikeston jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, leading 39-14 at the half and 51-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
Nine of the 12 players reached the scoring column led by Fred Thatch's 19 points.
Sikeston plays at Charleston today.
