SIKESTON -- Being remembered in a will means the Sikeston Public Library's plans for an expansion won't be forgotten.
Councilman Bob Depro, who serves as the City Council's liaison to the Library Board, reported during the Council's regular monthly briefing session Monday that the estate of Ann Draughon Matthews donated $439,500 to the Library.
Depro said as the Library's fundraising efforts had "stalled" at about $150,000 and the Library did not get a grant it applied for, library board members were looking at ways to scale back the project which would make the library building's lower floor accessible for public use.
