SIKESTON -- A Bertrand man is in jail and facing felony charges for a shooting in 2011 after almost a year on the run.

Alonzo Simpson, 27, was arrested by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety Saturday after information was obtained that Simpson was at a Sikeston business, according to Capt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Simpson is charged with first degree felony assault, a class A felony; armed criminal action, a felony; and the class C felony of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

"He's had this warrant out on him for awhile," McMillen said. "This guy's been on the run for awhile."

The charges are from a shooting on Sept. 21, 2011. At about 6:20 p.m. on that date, DPS responded to a call of shots fired at Delmar and Dorothy Street and found upon arrival a 23-year-old man, Eric Tucker of Sikeston, in the roadway with a severe gunshot wound.
