BENTON -- Scott County Emergency Management's truck is doing more than just pulling its weight.

Most of the equipment on the truck -- such as the full-bed tool box and radios, including a Missouri Statewide Interoperable Network radio, and even the four-wheel drive truck itself -- has been purchased with help from various grants, said Tom Beardslee, emergency management director for the county.

But even without grant assistance, the county spending $7,000 to equip the truck with a snow blade and salt spreader has already proved "worthwhile," according to Beardslee.
