PADUCAH, Ky. - A potentially significant winter storm is forecast over the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service at Paducah, the passage of a cold front and a system lifting out of the southern plains will bring wintry weather to the region from Saturday night through at least midday Monday.
"Significant accumulations of ice are possible with snow and sleet falling on the ice before ending," the NWS reported.
A winter storm watch is in effect from late Saturday night though Monday morning.
The impact of the storm includes the possibility of snow and ice-covered roadways which will result in extremely dangerous travel conditions, forecasters wanred. "
Ice accumulation on trees and power lines will likely cause tree damage as well as some power outage," the NWS reported.
Forecasters are continuing to watch storm conditions and added as conditions become more certain, the watch could be upgraded to a winter storm warning.
