Dexter strikes early, takes down Bulldogs

DEXTER -- On the back of as three-run, third-inning rally, the Dexter Bearcats defeated visiting Sikeston on Thursday 6-3.

The Bearcats jumped on top with a run in the first before their three-run outburst in the bottom of the third put them ahead 4-1.

They scored another run in the fourth before the Bulldogs answered with a pair of runs in the fifth to close back within two runs, 5-3.

One more insurance run in the home half of the fifth proved more than enough as Dexter held on for the win.

Austin Aldridge picked up the win while Gavin O'Brien took the loss.

At the plate Sikeston got a 2 for 3 effort from both Doug Still and Blake Wolferding. Still drove in a pair of runs and Wolferding had a double.

Colton Hampton had the team's only other extra-base hit, a double.

For the Bearcats, D.J. Dowdy, Dalton Manuel and Aldridge had two hits each.

Now at 11-10, Sikeston will stay on the road to play Graves County, in Mayfield, Ken., today at 4 p.m.

The Sikeston junior varsity won its game against Dexter 4-2.

Makenzie Worth got the win on the mound. Trey Smith and Josh Stinnett each hit doubles for Sikeston, who scored all four of it's runs in the first inning.
