Buchanan recognized for her work as volunteer
SIKESTON - "I do what I can," said Sarah Buchanan about her volunteer work.
But ask those she has helped over the years and they will tell you Buchanan is much too modest about her efforts to help others. They point to her work for the past 15 years serving meals at the OAKS Nutrition Center and her involvement with the Kenny Rogers Children's Center and its telethon for more than three decades as just a small part of what she does on behalf of her community.
It was Buchanan's many activities which earned her the Lieutenant Governor's Senior Service Award. The award was presented to Buchanan and 33 others at a luncheon for the winners and their guests in the Capitol on Tuesday.
Nominated by Lisa Hicks of the OAKS Nutrition Center in Sikeston, Buchanan has volunteered to serve meals, help with paperwork, raise funds and lead numerous projects at the Center.
Hicks described Buchanan as a "true giver and a delight to know."
