BENTON - A Sikeston man is in custody for a burglary that occurred Saturday night.
Jimmy Garrett, 26, of 213 Ruth St., is charged with the Class C felony of second degree burglary and the Class D felony of possession of burglary tools.
According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, Deputy John C. Caudle responded to a report of suspicious activity near a business north of Sikeston at approximately 9:48 p.m. Saturday. At the scene, Caudle observed the drive-thru window of the business was broken and pry marks on the window pane.
Other deputies responded to the scene and the building was searched. No one was located inside.
At 1 a.m. Sunday, Sergeant Barry Morgan located two males walking south on Highway 61 near Fairfield Street in Sikeston.
"One of the men had broken glass on his clothing. The men admitted they had walked from a county road approximately one mile from the crime scene," Walter said in a news release.
Further investigation into the matter and from statements taken, deputies determined both subjects were at the scene of the crime.
Garrett remains in custody in the Scott County Jail. Bond is set by the court at $25,000 cash or surety.
Walter commended his deputies for a quick response to the scene, and their work in solving the crime.
