MINER -- Miner has a city attorney but is still waiting for an assistant fire chief.

Mayor Darren Chapman's appointment of Tabatha Thurman to the city attorney position was approved by the Miner Board of Aldermen in a split vote during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

Thurman had been serving as temporary city attorney on monthly appointments by Chapman as until Tuesday, board members would neither approve Chapman's appointment nor offer a suggestion for an appointment by the mayor they could all could agree on.

Deloris Smith and Janet Williams were the board members who voted against the appointment leaving Chapman to cast the tie-breaking vote.
