SIKESTON -- Local voters will pick candidates for several federal, state and county offices during the Aug. 5 primary election.

With each of the four political parties having only a single candidate appearing on the primary election ballot for the 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, November's race appears to be set.

Incumbent Jason Smith, the Republican, will face Democrat Barbara Stocker, Libertarian Rick Vandeven and Doug Enyart from the Constitution Party.

At the state level, two candidates will compete to appear as the Democrat in the November election for the state representative of the 149th District: Bill Burlison and Diedra Ashley Freeman.

The district also has a two-way race on the Republican ballot as Don Rone and Neal E. Boyd are seeking that party's nomination for the 149th District.

In the 148th District of the Missouri House, incumbent Holly Rehder must defeat a fellow Republican, Duston Y. Stone, in her bid for re-election as no candidates have filed from other parties.
