The Portageville High School Lady Dawgs hosted their first-ever Softball Jamboree on Friday. Participating teams included Neelyville and Twin Rivers. Each game consisted of four innings, with no tie breakers. The jamboree was held Friday at Portagaville's Adams Park.
The jamboree's first game saw the Lady Dawgs square off against Twin Rivers. An eight-run explosion in the second inning led Portageville Lady Dawgs to a 9-0 win. The Dawgs scored in the second, on a groundout by Alexis Glidewell, RBI singles by Kelsi Miller, Destiney Crossno, and Jill Kellams, and a grand slam by Hanna Cook.
Taylor Tiffany kept contact to a minimum, striking out nine Twin Rivers batters. She tossed three innings of shutout ball and allowed only four hits. Dawgs closing pitcher, Kelsi Miller, put away the final three outs to record the save.
The second game featured Twin Rivers and Neelyville. The final score was 7-7.
In the third and final game, Portageville battled Neelyville. Portageville went up for good in the first, scoring one run on an RBI double by Miller. The team built an early lead against Neelyville, scoring three runs in the first inning, en route to a 3-0 win. The Lady Dawgs scored again in the first, on a two-run single by Miller, and a passed ball. Miller led the hitting with a 2-2 count, driving in one and scoring another. Taylor Tiffany struck out 12, paving the way for the final win. Tiffany gave up two hits, over four, shut-out innings.
The team's season home opener will be Thursday, Aug. 28, hosting Cape Central High School.
