BROSELEY -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team swatted 16 hits and won it's season opener on the road at Twin Rivers 5-4.

Madison Smith pitched the win giving up 10 hits, three earned runs and striking out five.

"She pitched well and settled down and started striking girls out," Sikeston head coach Eric Voorhees said. "I think the heat was a shock to everyone but she started spotting her pitches."

Myca Martin, Kylie Noe and Hanna Placek each had three hits. Martin, Placek and Madeline Witt all had doubles as well.

"I thought we hit the ball well," Voorhees said. "I thought we would push a few more runs across but it's good to get a win to start the season."

Sikeston's next game will be Thursday at Poplar Bluff and their home opener is Friday against Puxico.
