Portageville at Chaffee
Records: Portageville 1-0; Chaffee 0-1
Series History: Portageville leads 39-24-2
Last Meeting: 2013, Chaffee won 38-7
Last Week: Portageville defeated Barat Academy 42-0; Chaffee lost to Grandview 20-6
Outlook: Portageville got off to a fast start on the road against a new program in Barat Academy. Junior running back Daniel McCray had a big game, rushing for 115 yards while the Bulldogs were able to throw for over 100 yards as well. The stout Portageville defense held Barat pitched a shutout which doesn't bode well for a Chaffee offense that struggled to score in their opener. Junior quarterback Jordan Wilburn completed six of 17 passes for 20 yards with one interception while Thomas Robbins was the highlight for the Red Devils, rushing for 100 yards on 19 carries with one touchdown. Chaffee turned the ball over three times in the game and allowed 380 yards on the ground to Grandview.

Charleston at Hayti
Records: Charleston 0-1; Hayti 0-1
Series History: Hayti leads 7-5
Last Meeting: 2013, Charleston won 34-6
Last Week: Charleston lost to Sikeston 66-20; Hayti lost to Thayer 18-12
Outlook: Things went bad quickly for a young Charleston team against Sikeston in their season opener as the Bluejays gave up 50 first quarter points. Charleston came around in the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-0 but still lost 66-20. A bright spot for the Bluejays was running back Rontavious Clark. The senior gained 129 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns. Quarterback Evan Burton was 5 of 8 for 34 yards and one touchdown, but the Bluejays were only able to compile 84 total yards. Hayti played a tough Thayer squad close on the road, dropping a low-scoring affair 18-12. The Indian defense forced seven turnovers with Brandon Burden returning an interception back for a touchdown. Senior linebacker Rayshon Stringfellow had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery. Offensively Hayti was held to 196 yards. Maurice Farr and Austin Neisler both played quarterback with Farr finishing with 39 yards and Neisler with 69 yards. Cedric Fields led Hayti in rushing with 41 yards while junior Jamal Brooks had 40 yards rushing and another 55 yards receiving.

Poplar Bluff at Dexter
Records: Poplar Bluff 1-0; Dexter 0-1
Series History: Poplar Bluff leads 52-20-6
Last Meeting: 2013, Poplar Bluff won 34-7
Last Week: Poplar Bluff defeated Fox 35-21; Dexter lost to Ste. Genevieve 27-21
Outlook: It took a while for the Poplar Bluff offense to get clicking in their opening game against Fox but when it did the Mules took off. Quarterback Kameron Misner ran for three touchdowns at 92 yards while throwing for 145 yards and a touchdown. Running back Bi Nguyen ran for 140 yards for a score. The Mules turned the ball over three times in the game but the Poplar Bluff defense was stout until the fourth quarter when they gave up all 21 points. Dexter was victimized by the big play in their first game against Ste. Genevieve, allowing three scores over 35 yards. The Bearcats gave up 379 total yards in the game but forced six turnovers. Offensively senior quarterback Peyton Pollock threw for 140 yards and rushed for another 92 while receiver Ethan Stevens caught seven passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

Grandview at East Prairie
Records: Grandview 1-0; East Prairie 1-0
Series History: East Prairie leads 5-1
Last Meeting: 2013, East Prairie won 43-8
Last Week: Grandview defeated Chaffee 20-6; East Prairie defeated Kelly 29-7
Outlook: Grandview rushed for 380 yards in their opening night win over Chaffee, completing only one of 10 passes for a loss of a yard. They dominated the time of possession but often shot themselves in the foot with 11 penalties for 110 yards. The Grandview defense was also tough, forcing three turnovers and holding Chaffee to 166 yards. East Prairie won their opening game of the season for the first time since 2009 with a balanced offense. The Eagles gained 226 yards on the ground, led by Deverence Jones' 86 yards. Quarterback Brett Ellis threw for 107 yards and ran for an additional 62 on the ground. The East Prairie defense was strong, holding the Kelly offense to just 82 yards.

Crystal City at Kelly
Records: Crystal City 0-1; Kelly 0-1
Series History: First meeting
Last Meeting: first ever meeting
Last Week: Crystal City lost to Brentwood 61-26; Kelly lost to East Prairie 29-7
Outlook: Crystal City allowed 61 points to high-powered Brentwood last week but quarterback Logan Grove was able to throw for two touchdowns. Donovan Williams scored on a run from 66 yards out while Andrew Sawdy also scored for the Hornets, returning an interception for a score. The Hornets defense was gashed by Brentwood running back Jacob Clay who scored five rushing touchdowns from 73, 37, 2, 38 and 38 yards. Kelly didn't look overmatched in their first-ever varsity game but struggled to score, gaining only 82 total yards. Matthew Burford scored Kelly's lone touchdown and led the Hawks in rushing with 48 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Kyle Fitzgerald completed 8 of 18 passes for 37 yards as the Hawks managed only three first downs.
