Despite of the gusty winds and cooler temperature last Saturday, several folks braved the weather in sitting up booths and tables to sell arts and crafts and honey, and other unique gift ideas. Saturday, was Main Street Madness and kicked off the 67th Annual National Soybean Festival. Plus hot food was available at different vendors up and down Main Street.
Starting off the morning was the Superhero 5K Run, sponsored by SRG Global - Portageville facility. 15 entries participated. The top three winners were First Place, Todd Higgs, 20:55; Second Place, Travis Maddox, 22:30; and Third Place, Reece Lindley, 23:18. They also sponsored a 1 mile Kids Run that began at 12 Noon. That winner is Blake Weddington, 10 years old of Portageville. Organizers of the event would like to thank everyone who supported the 2014 SRG 5K and Kids Fun Run!! A great time was had on Saturday despite the cool weather. They raised $405 for the local Toys for Tots & Food Pantry charities
The Miss Soybean Queen Pageant was held at 10:30 with Lisa Allen being crowned as Queen. She is the daughter of Tammy and Brian Allen of Portageville. First alternate Kaitlyn Danielle Pipkin, daughter of Blaine and Tina Pipkin of New Madrid; and second alternate is Mary Beth Estes, daughter of Barbara Young, Randy Estes and Ricky Dawson of Portageville.
For Junior Miss Soybean Queen, the winner is Isabella Rouse. She is the daughter of Brandon Rouse and Kim Pickens of Kennett.
The First alternate is Macey Shuffler, daughter of Derek and Stephanie Shuffler of Malden; and the Second alternate is
Gracie Williams, daughter of Shane and Jennifer Williams of Paragould, AR.
In the Young Junior Miss Soybean Queen, the winner is Mollie Grace Roberts. she is the daughter of Daniel and Amy Roberts of Portageville. First alternate is Delayni Smith, daughter of Merinda Smith of Campbell; and the Second alternate is - Makenzie Kellum, daughter of Sarah Calvert and Travis Kellum of Clarkton.
Finally, in the Little Miss Soybean Queen contest, the winner is Addison Gurley. She is the daughter of Rebecca and Dylan Gurley of Holcomb. The First alternate is Chloe Jay King, daughter of Jazmyne and Mark King of Gideon. The Second alternate is Hailey Caton, daughter of Andrew and Leah Canton of Sikeston.
